"The Grand River"

The Grand River rises just north of Dundalk, comes down through Riverview, Keldon, Grand Valley, Waldemar, Belwood, Fergus, Elora, West Montrose, Kitchener, Cambridge, Paris, Brantford, through the Six Nations Reserve to Caledonia, Cayuga, Dunnville and Port Maitland where it empties into Lake Erie.

Great Great Great Grandfather Perry Gifford had a ferry on the Grand River, for many years, where he would ferry people, their wagons and teams across the river. On the other side of the river was a hotel called Windeckers, where folks would stop for refreshments and talk before going on their way. I have placed a blue dot on the Six Nations Map of the southern section to indicate the area where his ferry operated.

This is the Grand River at Port Maitland, Ontario where it empties into Lake Erie.

And this is the Grand River at Dunnville, just a little North of Port Maitland.

The Grand River at Cambridge, Ontario. The towns of Preston, and Galt, Ontario were combined to make Cambridge, I used to fish the Grand River between Preston and Galt with my Uncle Sam Barker.
