Originally all the land for six miles on either side of the Grand River from the headwaters at the river Thames to Lake Erie was to go to the Indians of the Six Nations who fought with the British to defend Canada from the US. The area is shown inside the red lines on the maps below.
They lost the northern part above Brantford early and now all they have is the Township of Tuscarora, a bit of Onondaga and a tiny strip of Oneida. A small part of this is The New Credit Reserve of the Mississaugas. The indians sold it, traded it and gave it away to their friends.
